A thrilling victory for Australia's cross-country team has sparked a wave of excitement! Olympic medalist Jess Hull, along with her talented teammates, Ollie Hoare, Linden Hall, and Jack Anstey, dominated the 4x2000m mixed relay at the world championships in Florida. But here's where it gets controversial... they didn't just medal; they took home the gold!
With a time of 22:23, the Australian quartet left France, Ethiopia, Kenya, and the US in their wake. Hoare set the pace, Hall opened up a lead, Anstey maintained it, and Hull sealed the deal with a commanding anchor leg performance.
"We believed we could win, and we did!" exclaimed Hull, who previously won silver in the 1500m at the Paris Olympics and bronze at the world championships in Tokyo.
And this is the part most people miss... the win wasn't just about individual talent. It was a testament to the team's belief and culture. "With our incredible athletes and development, we wanted to show we could dominate as a team," Hoare explained.
In the women's race, Lauren Ryan and Leanne Pompeani achieved top 15 finishes, an impressive feat last accomplished by former world champion Benita Willis in 2008. Ryan and Pompeani led Australia to a strong fifth-place finish as a team, with Maudie Skyring and Bronte Oates close behind.
"I aimed for top 15, and I delivered!" Ryan proudly stated.
The men's 10km saw Ky Robinson race aggressively, eventually securing 24th place, just ahead of teammate Edward Marks. The Australian men's team finished a respectable eighth.
The under-20 teams also shone, with the men taking fourth over 8km and the women securing fifth in their 6km event.
