My understanding was that he tries to play for Jamaica, so we didn’t give it another thought. He was not in the mix at the moment, and he is not in our thoughts for our team." Despite Greenwood submitting paperwork to change his international allegiance to Jamaica, he has yet to represent the country, even missing out on potential selections for the Jamaican squad during the World Cup 2026 qualifiers against Bermuda and Trinidad and Tobago last September.
With an impressive tally of 42 goals in just 62 matches for Marseille, it’s evident that Greenwood has been a valuable acquisition for the French club. They even paid an additional £5 million to Manchester United last season due to securing Champions League football. Additionally, United included a remarkable 40% sell-on clause in Greenwood's contract with Marseille, which means if the French side decides to transfer him, United stands to gain nearly half of any profit made from that sale.
Recently, after contributing to Marseille's 2-1 victory over Newcastle United in November, Greenwood is set to face an English opponent again as Liverpool visits the Stade Vélodrome this Wednesday. Historically, he has struggled against Liverpool, having scored only once in five encounters, with that lone goal occurring during a thrilling FA Cup match in 2021, where United triumphed 3-2.
