Unboxing the Analogue 3D: A Blast from the Past with Translucent N64 Colors (2026)

Step back in time and relive the 90s with the Analogue 3D game console! This modern-day marvel is a recreation of the beloved Nintendo 64, and it's about to get a whole lot more colorful. The Analogue team has announced a new set of translucent colors that will transport you back to Nintendo's 'funtastic' series of color choices from 1999. But here's where it gets controversial... will these new colors be enough to entice retro gaming enthusiasts, or will they crave the classic black and white units? And this is the part most people miss... the Analogue 3D console isn't just about looks; it's a fully functional system that upscales original N64 cartridges in 4K and outputs them through HDMI for modern televisions. So, will you be adding a splash of color to your retro gaming setup, or sticking with the classic look? The choice is yours, and the debate is on! The Analogue 3D console will be available in eight different colors, including Jungle (green), Ice (teal blue), Watermelon (pinkish red), Fire (orange), Grape (purple), Clear, Smoke (gray), and Gold (solid color, not translucent, Toys R Us exclusive). The colored models will be priced at $300, $30 more than the standard black and white versions. Analogue is also partnering with 8BitDo, a third-party controller manufacturer, to offer matching controllers at launch for $45. The 'funtastic' colors will be available in highly limited quantities, so get yours soon! In 2021, Analogue also released the Pocket, a Game Boy-inspired handheld, in similar limited-edition color choices. Prices for some Pocket colors have doubled on sites like eBay, so it won't be surprising if Analogue continues to introduce new colors of the 3D, including aluminum variants at some point. The news of new Analogue 3D colors comes as the company faces competition from ModRetro, another company that recreates retro gaming consoles. ModRetro released images of its M64 console last month, which will upscale original N64 cartridges in 4K and output them through HDMI for modern televisions. ModRetro's design takes a more colorful approach when compared to Analogue, leaning into translucent colors and rounder edges. ModRetro plans on releasing the M64 in 2026.
